Empires are Changing!

I am excited to announce a change we’ve decided to make to the game which I think will be both very exciting for existing players as well as some prospective players which were turned off by how empires currently function.

In order to experiment with integrating empires more deeply into the gameplay, the premium currency, Hexite Shards, will no longer be used for founding, expanding, or maintaining Empire territory. Instead, expanding empires will rely on a new item that can only be obtained from the world through gameplay. Empires in BitCraft will remain a cosmetic system, and players will still be able to purchase cosmetics for their empires like banners, emblems, and statues, etc., but the core territory capture gameplay will not be tied to premium currency.

While empires will undoubtedly stay a status oriented facet of gameplay, this change allows us to experiment with making empire territory more impactful to the gameplay and world without compromising on our values. This is just the first of several changes we are trying out to make empires more rewarding and a better overall social experience with a deep dive being released as a design blog in the next few days. We’re super excited to see what this experiment can mean for the future of BitCraft empires.

Can we get insight on EA compared to launch of how are our efforts being awarded in launch? I mentioned to Region 2 that using our Achievement points as currency towards unique rewards for our accounts would properly represent all player's skills / professions.

I welcome the developers’ decision to abandon a business model that was killing long-term and social incentives across the entire gameplay loop. I think that now my friends and I will come to your world — and hopefully stay for a long time. Before, that simply wasn’t possible, mainly because of the business model. What’s interesting is that back in December of last year, I published a Substack piece titled “Why 2025 Could Have Been the Second Golden Age of MMOs” (mmofiles), where, among other examples of missed opportunities caused by poor business models, I also discussed BitCraft. Now, thankfully, BitCraft has moved past the fundamental problems described there. Congratulations to all of us.(edited)
